02/22/15 Give Me A Sign: Sign of the Covenant

Homily from the First Sunday of Lent.

Signs that cause what they signify.

Every covenant has a visible sign. This sign brings about, renews, or expresses the invisible reality of a new relationship being formed. Beginning with the very first page of the Bible, God establishes a real relationship with His people. The sign and Sacrament of Baptism brings the covenants of history into your story.

Mass Readings from February 22, 2015:

02/18/15 One Percent

Homily from Ash Wednesday.

Too many times we "do something" for Lent solely based off the idea that "I should or "I want to." This Lent, ask Jesus if He has any ideas of what He wants you to do to get closer to Him.

Mass Readings from Wednesday, February 18, 2015:
Joel 2:12-18
2 Corinthians 5:20—6:2
Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

02/15/15 Mind the Gap: Surrender

Homily from the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

The one thing in a relationship that changes everything in the relationship is trust.

What would your life look like if you knew that you could absolutely trust God? If you knew that, even in the midst of suffering and failure, rejection and sickness, God’s will could be done as long as you were willing to trust Him and say “yes”? The one thing that closes the gap between who we are and who we are meant to be — more than anything else — is to trust God at each moment and surrender to a God who loves you.

Mass Readings from February 15, 2015:
Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46
1 Corinthians 10:31—11:1
Mark 1:40-45

02/08/15 Mind the Gap: The Task

Homily from the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Doing the task that is set before you as best you can--no more and no less--is the mark of a person becoming who they are meant to be.

Jesus lived on mission. This meant that He did what He needed to do when He needed to do it the way He needed to do it. If we are going to close the gap between who we are and who we are meant to be, we need to be willing to do the job at hand.

Mass Readings from February 08, 2015:
Job 7:1-4, 6-7
1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23
Mark 1:29-39

02/01/15 Mind the Gap: Intimidated

Homily from the Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

To close the gap between you and who you were meant to be, you have to be willing to close the gap between you and God.

Closing the gap is intimidating. Meeting the true and living God is intimidating. But it is as easy as letting yourself be loved.
