12/25/14 Dressing Up

Homily from Christmas Day.

"I could present this morning an argument for God's existence, an argument for Jesus being God, an argument that Jesus established His Catholic Church, all of those arguments. And all of those arguments could change your mind, I believe that 100%. But the thing is this: arguments change minds. But you need something else to change a heart. It's a Person that changes hearts, it's Love that changes hearts. ... God is your soul mate. He is the One your heart is made for. It's actually not your spouse, it's not your kids, it's not your future spouse, it's not the person I want to meet someday and marry someday. They are not your soul mate. Jesus Christ is the One your hearts were made for. And what we celebrate today, and what we pray for today, is that we not just hear another argument about Jesus or another argument about God, but that we actually get to meet the One our hearts were made for, and to let that change us. Because arguments won't do it. We need something deeper to change our hearts."

12/14/14 Waiting Well: Celebrate While You Wait

Homily from the Third Sunday of Advent.

"This is what life is like. 'I've got all these papers due, I've got all these projects due, I've got this test to do, I've got all this stuff to do, I've got all this pressure on me!' And this is so beautiful that, in the middle of all of this, the Church says, 'Yes, in the middle of this kind of life, rejoice!' You don't have to wait for life to be perfect to be able to take joy in it. You don't have to wait for stress to be done to say actually, right now, today, I can rejoice. Because you have to realize this: it is a choice to rejoice. "

Mass Readings from December 14, 2014:
Isaiah 61:1-2, 10-11
1 Thessalonians 5:16-24

12/07/14 Waiting Well: What Are You Waiting For?

Homily from the Second Sunday of Advent.

"We don't have to pretend that we are living before Jesus. We are not waiting for Jesus to come into the world, what we are waiting for is we are longing for Jesus to come into certain areas of my life, and my world, and my heart. That's what we're waiting for. So the question I would ask you is where do you want Jesus to enter into your life? That's what this Advent can be all about: where are you hoping for Him to come into your life?"

Mass Readings from December 07, 2014:

11/30/14 Waiting Well: Confident Desperation

Homily from the First Sunday of Advent.

"I know this about myself and I know this about my heart, I imagine that you know this about yourself and your heart, too. On my own, I can't possibly love God as much as He can possibly be loved by me. But if He makes my heart new, if He makes me new, if I say, 'God, I give You permission this Advent to come into parts of my heart that You haven't come into yet, to come into parts of my life that You haven't come into yet. I give You permission to make my heart bigger so that I can love you as much as you can possibly be loved.' I just have to ask the question: do you want that? Do you desire that?"
